ROAD RAGE

Qingdao once again really turned on the charm today. I'm beginning to think that it will be extremely unlikely I actually see the sea while I'm here.

It felt like I spent most of today on or waiting for a bus.

Qingdao's public transport leaves much to be desired. A desperately required metro system is currently under construction but right now the bus is the only option.
It's always easy to spot the bus stop from the sheer number of people waiting. The huge number of lines also make the timetable (all in characters) a nightmare to figure out.

The funniest part is, the problems don't always end once you get on your bus. This evening my bus got caught in a crazy traffic jam on a roundabout connecting several elevated roads. Nothing was moving and the situation seemed hopeless. After sitting there for five minutes or so, the bus in front began to let people off and it created a domino effect. Passengers streamed from all the buses and just walked right around the traffic. It was bizarre to see people walking on what was essentially a motorway. Luckily we were close to my stop so it was a short walk. A poor policeman was running around like a mad man trying to fix it to no avail. When there are that many people, what are you really going to do?
